The Met as it is popularly known is located at 1000 5th Avenue on the Upper East Side. Occupying over 11 acres, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is the largest museum of art in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The museum was the second most visited art museum in the world in the 2016 year with about 7.06 million visitors. It was also the fifth most visited museum of any kind throughout the world.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a stunning array of collections with nearly three million works in its vault. These works span over 5,000 years and they showcase the glowing history of different countries and civilizations. Surprisingly though, the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art is easy to negotiate and this is especially the case if you visit early on a weekday when the crowds are thinner.

The works at the museum are divided across seventeen curatorial departments. These works range from sculptures and paintings from almost all the European masters, works of art from ancient Egypt and a large collection of works from American and Modern art. In part, the museum is home to Asian, Indian, Roman, African, Islamic, Byzantine, and Oceania works of art and collections of accessories, musical instruments, antique weapons and costumes from around the world.
